Hair fall is the most common problem of people these days. Hair fall is natural and one loses around 100 hairs per day. However, excessive hair fall can lead to baldness.

There are many hair problems associated with hair fall. Some of the most common hair problems include dandruff, premature greying of hair, split ends, alopecia areata, hair brittleness, and dry scalp. There is a cycle of hair growth with different phases, such as anagen, catagen, and telogen. Every hair strand goes through various phases before falling out. And, each phase is responsible for healthy hair.

Factors Responsible for Hair Loss

There are a number of factors responsible for hair fall and can trigger excess loss of hair:

  • Anemia and malnourishment are the most common causes of hair fall. An imbalanced diet can lead to a deficiency of important fatty acids, protein, and micronutrients such as selenium, iron, zinc, and copper, which are responsible for the maintenance of hair follicles and growth.

  • Stress, either mental or physical, can trigger hair fall. There can be various reasons for physical stress such as accidents, hair infection, excess bleeding, and chronic illness which can lead to hair loss. Prolonged mental stress can cause and trigger excess hair fall and hair loss.

  • Certain treatments and therapies such as a treatment for depression, gout, cardiovascular problems, HTN (hypertension), radiation, chemotherapy, and joint pain can cause hair loss.

  • Scalp and skin infections such as tinea, fungal infection, lichen planus, dandruff, and psoriasis.

  • Hormonal changes can also have a major impact on hair loss. The hormonal changes can occur due to various reasons such as childbirth, menopause, hyperthyroidism, menarche, lactation, and hypothyroidism. Androgen hormone plays a significant part in certain hair loss pattern.

Hair Fall and Regen Therapy

Different hair loss conditions can be treated with various therapeutic strategies. One such therapy is Regen Therapy that treats the follicles of the hair.

Hair cycle activation means regeneration within the affected follicle. Usually, there are four categories of hair regeneration:

  • The first category includes regeneration by physiological control or after hair plucking, which causes a micro-injury. The development of cycling is regulated by the stem cell niche, which is determined by macro and micro environmental factors.

  • Another category is Chimeric Follicles in which the contribution of mesenchymal and epithelial layer to the hair cycle can be examined by mesenchymal and epithelial recombination.

  • The third category is Wound Induced Follicle Neogenesis where new hair follicles are formed after large wounding. This can also take place physiologically.

  • The fourth category is the Follicle Neogenesis based on Tissue Engineering, in which new hair follicles are reconstituted from disassociated hair inducing dermal cells and epidermal stem cells.

Takeaway

Excess hair fall can lead to hair loss and baldness which can be very depressing and can affect one’s daily life, especially psychologically. There are therapies that can help to control it and regrow the lost hair. One such therapy is Regan therapy. However, one should consult the specialist about the best available option for the specific case.
